Jacob is a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Physiology, interested in the physiology and dynamics of the cerebral vasculature.

He is originally from Holland, Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University with bachelor’s degrees in Biosystems Engineering and Physics. As an undergraduate Jacob gained hands-on experience in physics, bioenergy, and physiology, highlighted by internships at NASA’s Johnson Space Center where he analyzed wearable sensor data and developed biofeedback systems for exercise applications.

Jacob went on to earn his PhD in physics, with a biophysics concentration, from the University of California San Diego. There he worked in the lab of Dr.David Kleinfeld studying cerebral arteriole dynamics and neurovascular coupling. Jacob’s graduate research focused on low-frequency cerebral arteriole dynamics and the role of intrinsic vasomotion in shaping the hemodynamic representation of neural activity.
